My Destiny is Crusin'
Well, I just got back from a trip on the Disney Destiny around the Bahamas. I got to see the Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and the fantastic Disney Castaway Cay . While I have been to Castaway before, Lighthouse Point was new and interesting, if a little generic.
The Island(s)
Something odd is that the water at the beach in Lighthouse Point was somehow saltier than I had tasted in the ocean before, and saltier than Castaway’s beach. I wonder if it had something to do with the way that the beach’s rocky shelter was constructed, or if the ocean salinity in that area is somehow higher. In any case, Lighthouse Point was nice but with the “Chapek Highway” and the lack of exciting activities, it’s not as nice as Castaway, even if it’s better organized and the infrastructure services are much better defined (bathrooms, food service, etc).
The Destiny
The ship itself is well appointed and looks gorgeous. It should as it’s practically brand new. There were some glitches while on board, like the Quiet Cove pool being closed, and the A/C in the sports area being off/broken. The latter got fixed mid-way through the trip, the former was out of commission the whole time. Not big issues, but small things that make the experience less magical.
Speaking of less magical. The “Wish Class” ships all suffer from the same layout issues. Lots of dead ends and odd room placement, especially on lower decks that don’t have a veranda view. It makes it difficult to navigate successfully without doubling back or having to climb/descend over some obstacle. While this layout doesn’t come up all the time, it does make it so that you have to be aware of where you’re going and do less random exploring. Which is kind of a shame.

The first view of the ship from the parking garage.
Maleficent was on our part of the ship, the "villain's side".
Pride Lands is a nice looking "dinner and a show" restaurant themed after the Lion King
Down in The Sanctum, a Doctor Strange themed bar, they have some interesting choices for drinks
Of course you can buy special sippers for your drink, this one modeled after the Eye of Agamotto
They did have some cool things, like this little platform that turns your glass into a plasma ball.
I had "The Darkhold" which had chocolate and coffee elements, so it came in this cool percolator.
The cocktail in question.
They had the cloak of levitation as a prop here, too.
Some sort of magic book here, containing untold eldritch drink recipes, I'm sure.
The cool design feature from the movie
The main foyer had a lot of Black Panther themed items and decoration, including this incredible statute of T'Challa and the Panther God Bast
The aft of the ship had a Spider-Man themed detail where his Spider-Bots were going haywire, these are some concept models.
The details of said.
The Disney Destiny bell.
A really nice Encanto-themed layered art piece.
The Marvel-themed restaurant had these neat reliefs of the Avengers (presumably) Assembling.
Cap is about to deck someone.
We had some lovely weather, great for shuffleboard. If you don't mind the humidity.
Wider angle of the main foyer.
The vibranium meteor that effectively jumpstarted the Wakandan empire.
The so-called "Chapek Mile" at the recently opened Disney Lighthouse Point.
The main smoke stacks, located just above the children's splash area. Now that I look at it, it's very odd.
Wide pano of the adult deck area overlooking the children's splash area.
Disney's Lighthouse Point, Chapek Mile and more of the adult deck.
Cove Cafe. Lovely little coffee area in the aft of the ship. Adults only.
On the tram to the main area at Lighthouse Point.
The Disney Destiny
"Don't Gaslight me Jesus."
Pym, in addition to producing physics-breaking particles, makes a mean churo-flavored sundae.
My finger intruding on my poor attempt at getting a picture of Spider-Man and Spider-Bots.
Disney's Castaway Cay island. Including the awesome floating slide platform.
You don't really realize how *big* these things are until you walk the length of it, right next to it.
Yeah, that's a lot of decks.

Pirate Night. Meh. Great if you want to get drunk and dance.

The Quiet Cove adult pool was closed for repairs. Apparently, it sprung a leak. Which is sad because the ship is not yet a year old.
Wide angle on the Quiet Cove
Wall-E, Towel Mode.
Orange Creamsicle Cheesecake. Yum! 😋
My son got a sundae with cool Lion King-themed chocolates.
Last night, last showing of the live action play "Hercules" -- it was good, but knowing anything about the real story paints this whole thing as absurd.
